NYCSCA Public School 59R, Staten Island
Known as the Harborview School, the 80 year old building formerly housed St. Peter's Girls High School and St. Peter's Elementary School. The city currently leases the building. LiRo contingent staff provided construction management services to NYCSCA for the fast paced project, which resulted in a complete renovation of the building over one summer.
The project scope included an upgrade of 20 classrooms, as well as the auditorium, library, cafeteria, and gymnasium. The facility includes a special education and resource room, a room for both science and art, and a separate music room, as well as an outdoor early childhood play area.
The school currently serves pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students; plans call for adding a grade each year through fifth-grade, for an ultimate enrollment of 372 students. The curriculum offers a hands-on approach to the arts, and maintains partnerships with local art organizations to promote the arts to the student body.
