Prospect Avenue Reconstruction

Prospect Avenue Reconstruction

LiRo provided civil engineering services for the reconstruction of Prospect Avenue, in New Cassel, NY, for the Town of North Hempstead. LiRo assisted with the preparation of the design report, and prepared the final plans, specifications and estimate for the reconstruction of a one-mile section of Prospect Avenue.

The project's objective was "traffic calming" for this section of Prospect Avenue, as well as making the area more pedestrian and shopper friendly. To accomplish this goal, a one-car travel lane, a dedicated bicycle lane, and a parking lane in each direction was constructed. Medians were also added to increase pedestrian safety. The addition of various streetscape elements, including decorative pre-cast concrete paver sidewalk areas; decorative pedestrian lighting; benches; trash receptacles; curb extensions and tree plantings, were all major components of the project.

The design concepts for this project were developed by the Town of North Hempstead, primarily through extensive interaction with the local community, including a four-day planning event. LiRo worked closely with Town officials on the design process for the preparation of a final plan that won the final approval of all stakeholders.
