Rochester Educational Opportunity Center
The Rochester Educational Opportunity Center (REOC) is the downtown Rochester campus for the State University of Brockport. Offering academic preparation and career training in the fields of health care, business technology, and occupational trades, REOC originally held programs at three separate locations within Rochester. Initiated by the State University Construction Fund, plans for a centralized site were developed to enable services to be merged into one location. LiRo was the Construction Manager for the project.
The work scope included additions and renovations to an existing five-story, 125,000 sf steel framed building. The existing façade consisted of a combination of curtain wall, precast concrete panels and ribbon windows. New façade work included additional curtain wall, translucent channel glass and architectural composite wall panels.
Extensive demolition and replacement of existing architectural, mechanical, plumbing and electrical work, as well as minor structural modifications, were required. Site work included parking area pavement, planter and paver installation and landscaping. The project is a candidate for LEED Silver certification.
The renovations resulted in the creation of state-of-the-art classrooms, galleries, student and faculty lounges, laboratories, libraries, computer rooms, and offices/administration areas. A 6,000 sf Culinary Arts facility, including space for both a restaurant and kitchen, was installed. And a 500-seat multipurpose area, equipped with updated presentation technology, provides an effective space for presentations, events, and public gatherings.
LiRo completed constructability and design reviews, cost estimates and construction scheduling during the design phase of the project. Services performed during construction included schedule and cost updates, project documentation, construction supervision, quality assurance and commissioning oversight.
