Overview
Lightower/Crown Castle, the primary contractor to New York City Department of Education for design and build of a state-of-the-art fiber-optic network to over 800 schools in the NYC boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn, partnered with LiRo-Hill for the proficient execution of this federally funded initiative. LiRo-Hill provided area network planning and outside plant design services for approximately 240 miles of backbone fiber feeder routes, along with the subsurface and aerial infrastructure adjustments needed for deployment. LiRo-Hill also designed the in-building cable facilities for approximately 150 of these city schools.
About the Project
The large scale of this dense urban, public school project required continual orchestration of the various private and public entities associated with cable path and points of attachment. This included securing required permissions and approvals for manhole/conduit/micro-trenching path, highway and private right-of-way, DOT permitting, cable attachment licensing, property easements, and other supporting access requirements in support of design implementation.
Project Challenges & Solutions
LiRo-Hill’s proficiency with cable technology deployment coupled with its solid industry reputation as a leader on public infrastructure projects enables LiRo-Hill to be uniquely positioned to effectively navigate the challenges of dense urban and suburban markets.
Outcome
This project is still on-going and reaching the initial phases of construction.
