Overview
The new Prevention Assistance and Temporary Housing (PATH) Facility was built for the Department of Homeless Services through the New York City Department of Design & Construction. The state-of-the-art facility serves as an entry point for the homeless, where clients will be interviewed and evaluated before being placed at shelters throughout the five boroughs. The new center is designed not only to treat homeless families better, but to get them processed far more quickly.
About the Project
LiRo-Hill provided construction management (CM/Build) services for this new eight-story, 84,000 sf building featuring a detailed terracotta rain screen curtain wall system designed by Ennead (Polshek Partnership LLP) that achieved LEED Gold certification. The new building features an eco-conscious design that supports a comfortable atmosphere for children. It also has a ticked queue management system and a bi-lingual announcement system to assist families with navigating the application process.
Project Challenges & Solutions
A detailed safety and site logistics plan had to be designed to apply for and achieve the many considerations necessary from the Department of Transportation due to the stringent restrictions in place as a result of the project’s proximity to Yankee Stadium.
Outcome
Construction on the new PATH center started in October 2007 and the facility began serving clients in May of 2011. While total cost for the facility was budgeted at $75 million, it was completed for $65.5 million.
