Overview
The rehabilitation of Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge, an 80-year-old vertical lift bridge, involved numerous complex phases and projects. LiRo-Hill provided resident engineering and inspection services for this undertaking.
About the Project
Carrying four lanes of vehicular traffic and a pedestrian walkway over Jamaica Bay, the movable span is 550 ft in length and provides 150 ft of vertical clearance for marine traffic. The project was comprised of the following major scope items:
- Full replacement of the lift span operating machinery and related electrical components
- Replacement of the bridge control system
- Replacement of the droop cable system
- Rehabilitation of the upper air buffers, guide shows, and auxiliary counterweight system
- Installation of a new counterweight rope lubrication system
