Project Challenges & Solutions

Project sequencing and phasing proved to be a challenge at locations that remained operational throughout the duration of construction. LiRo-Hill preemptively addressed the issue of phasing by creating sequencing drawings that minimize downtime. At Medgar Evers College, LiRo-Hill was tasked with replacing the boiler while continuing to meet the facility’s year-round steam requirements. To accomplish this, LiRo-Hill’s design incorporated a temporary boiler package with considerations for building egress paths and operable windows.

Outcome

Projects resulted in asset renewals and infrastructure improvements at existing institutions while lowering the overall energy footprint of NYS-owned buildings. Collaboration with LiRo-Hill’s construction managers resulted in an approach that incorporated constructability, costs, and schedule constraints into the designs.
