Overview

DiGiorgio Associates Incorporated (DAI), a LiRo-Hill Group Company, completed the design of a 2,000 sf Family Resource Center for Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC). The center serves as a valuable resource for patient families and boasts a simulation room to help train parents to administer treatments for their child, an interactive learning center with a table-sized touch screen surface, and six computer stations for parents and children to access the internet to gather information or research medical conditions. It is one of the only Centers of its kind that provides valuable resources to both the patients and parents in the same space.

About the Project

The Center is also home to a library, movie room, and information center. Designed with children in mind, the United Technologies Corporation (UTC) Family Resource Center’s bright colors and modern architecture exudes a fresh look and feel that appeals to both children and adults of all ages.

Outcome

The Center is staffed by a Medical Resource Librarian, an Educational Specialist, and highly trained volunteers, who guide families through dedicated resources and support offerings. Training and educational courses are also available to parents looking to learn more about their child’s healthcare needs. In addition to the latest technology and simulation training equipment, the UTC Family Resource Center is completely free of charge to all families.
